Năm 1970, quân đội Đan Mạch tấn công nước Anh, tàn phá một cách ghe gớm. Chúng quyết uy hiếp nữ tu viện Coldingam, nên bao vây, hò hét, làm náo động tinh thần các chị em.

Thánh nữ Ebba bấy giờ làm Bề trên triệu tập các chị em vào nhà nguyện Đức Mẹ và cầu xin:

“Lạy Mẹ Maria, Mẹ thanh sạch hơn các kể đồng trinh, xin ra tay cứu vớt tôi mọn hèn của Mẹ, soi cho con và các chị em biết cách giữ trọn đức Trinh khiết. Xin Mẹ giơ tay quyền phép trên chúng con, ban sức mạnh, thà chịu chết nếu cần, còn hơn là ưng thuận phạm tội mà mất triều thiên đồng trinh”.

Lời nguyện nỉ non lạc giữa muôn tiếng gầm thét của đoàn quỉ sứ đã hiện ra quanh nhà dòng. Thánh nữ Ebba cương quyết khuyên chị em: Ai trong chị em còn mến Chúa và quí kho báu đồng trinh hãy bắt chước tôi, đừng sợ chi hết. Chính cái chết sẽ êm ái cho ai muốn phí sự sống vì nhân đức. Nói xong, thánh nữ lấy dao rạch mặt, xẻo tai, cắt mũi mình be bét máu chảy lai láng. Tất cả chị em khác thi đua theo gương can đảm ấy, trong nháp mang một bộ mặt tan nát, đẫm máu!

Đàn quỉ sống tiến vào, kinh hoàng trước cảnh tượng thương tâm đó, chúng còn nghĩ gì việc hiếp tróc, nhưng máu căm hờn sùng sục sôi lên, chúng vung gươm chém giết tất cả mọi người, đồng thời châm lửa thiêu hủy cả khu dòng thành một đống tro!

- Vào lúc này Đan Mạch và Anh không có cuộc chiến tranh nào, vả lại năm 1973 Đam Mạch tham gia vào khối EU, nên khó có thể có chiến tranh trước đó 3 năm.
- Đã là 1970 thì không thể có chuyện dùng gươm để tàn sát...

This was at that time the largest monastery in all Scotland, and had been founded by another St. Ebba, who was sister to St. Oswald and Oswi, kings of Northumberland. In the year 870, according to Matthew of Westminister or rather in 874, according to the Scottish historians, in an incursion of the cruel Danish pirates, Hinguar and Hubba, this abbess was anxious, not for her life, but for her chastity, to preserve which she had recourse to the following stratagem. Having assembled her nuns in the Chapter-house, after making a moving discourse to her sisters, she, with a razor, cut off her nose and upper-lip, and was courageously imitated by all the holy community.
